Soy milk - home made

In Taiwan, instead of having a cup of coffee, drinking soy milk is the way most people start the day. Breakfast shops serve the milk fresh and hot, and simply flavor it with some sugar.

In Western countries, soy milk is getting very popular. I saw packaged soy milk displayed along with dairy products, for example. There are different flavors, like chocolate, strawberry or vanilla soy milk. It's sometimes called soya milk or soybean milk.

When I was growing up in Taiwan, soy milk was only flavored with sugar. Before going to school or work, it was an energy drink to start a day.

In the old days, many families used to make their own soy milk. They would soak the beans overnight, blend the beans with water till finely blended. Then filter the milk through a cotton cloth. Bring the soy milk to the boil, and flavor with some sugar before serving.

Recently, I got a super blender from Vita-Mix. The powerful machine saves me a lot of time. I can just blend the cooked beans and hot water, then drink it straight after that without draining it.

I've shown how to make soy milk to many of my Western guests.  Most women like the drink, especially those women who are experiencing menopause. They are very impressed that I can make the fresh soy milk within two minutes. And they all excited about making their own fresh soy milk. They said it will help to reduce menopausal symptoms.

Soy milk is famous for its many healthy values, but I simply enjoy my fresh hot soy milk, it's like having a good cup of coffee in the morning.
